For many people, St Mary's Church is simply a building with a great history: an important monument in the community, a venue for so many occasions and celebrations in people's lives.
For the people who gather here on Sundays and throughout the week, it is the house of the church, a community of people, a community of faith.
An important part of our faith is looking outward to the needs of others. Sometimes, those needs are far away, in places we will never visit, of people we will never meet. On other occasions, the needs are closer to home, in our own neighbourhood, on our own doorstep.
We are committed to looking outward!.
We regularly support a number of projects, home and away...
Close to home, we support the Huggard Centre, a Cardiff-based charity in our parish tackling homelessness and seeking to overcome the problems and barriers that force individuals to sleep rough on our streets. We also support Ty Bronna - the Church Army Hostel for homeless young people in Fairwater, Cardiff. In 2015, we supported local families in crisis through Cardiff Foodbank to whom we donated 339kg of food.
Further away, we donate to the work of Christian Aid and, through the United Society, we continue with our ongoing support of the Teule Hospital in Muheza, Tanzania, which runs a nurse training school, specialising in both general nursing and midwifery. The nurse training school sets high standards for patient care and aims to train nurses who will work with Christian love for their patients.
When disaster strikes, we are also ready to help. In 2015, we donated to the DEC Nepal Earthquake Appea and the Christian Aid Refugee Crisis Appeal.
